Literature Text

When Iris Maxwell's mother passed away, she spent years in isolation, unsure of what to do with her life.  The only stable foundation in her life was gone, leaving her to figure out what to do with herself.  Her mother was all she had, her father never being seen.  Not even her mother spoke much about him.  There was no way to know where he was, much less if he was a good person.  In the end, she was on her own.

When she was in her early twenties, Iris decided to finally leave her home and wander the world.  She gathered the supplies and money that she could use and purchased a small ship.  As a resident of the Xinata Archipelago, it was mandatory that she had one if she wished to explore.  The ship would become her new home, the place she could always return to as she embraced a sense of adventure.  With a rapier named after he mother, Cassandra, by her side, her journey would begin.

Over time she grew to enjoy the sense of discovering new locations and people, regardless of any danger that may be associated with them.  In particular, she loved acquiring loot and treasure.  In the following months, she would slowly transform into a sort of pirate.  She would never harm civilians, only boarding rival pirate ships and taking what they had.  Times were sometimes rough, but she loved the thrill that her life was providing.  She would vanquish many rival pirates, explore a number of ancient ruins, gathering treasure that she would either keep, sell or sometimes give away.  Eventually she would purchase what is now her current ship.  While it wasn't much larger than the one she had, it was also faster.  She relied on speed while out on the sea, ready to use it arrive to her next location or avoid danger.  It was her best defense for her ship's lack of firepower.  If she was going to board an enemy vessel, she made sure that she could do so safely.  This has made her tactical in how she approaches the art of being a pirate at the seas.  Her reputation would continue to grow.

Throughout her adventures, she was able to discover more about herself and what she loved in life.  Even if she was still alone, she never minded it as the next adventure was always waiting for her.  There was so much to see and do in the archipelago.  Life was never slow and she enjoyed that.  Though, in her mind, she did wish that she could learn something about her father.  Her efforts failed to bear any fruit in this quest.  She continues on, hoping to maybe one day learn the truth.

By the time she turned 26, she had explored the majority of the islands in her home region.  Yet, there was no slowing down her lust for adventure.  She knew there was more to see and do in the world.  It was all a matter of making the effort to get there.  With this in mind, she traded for enough supplies that would sustain her on a long journey, including any maps on the world that she could gather.  She would like to return home some day after all, once she is finally ready to settle down.

When ready, she started out for her next grand adventure.  She didn't know where exactly she was going, but she didn't care.  There was more to see and she couldn't wait.

She sailed over the course of a couple months, dodging the occasional storm in the process.  When she finally found land, her initial excitement was immediately subdued when her ship was surrounded by military vessels.  With little choice, she was forced to dock at a seaside town.  Upon inquiring as to why she was forced to do this, she was told by a soldier that the waters around their country of Yavar were only allowed to be sailed by military vessels.  Apparently, this is due to a rising conflict between them and another nation.  She was not going to be arrested, but she was told that she could not leave until the situation was resolved.  If she really wanted to leave, she would have to seek the king's permission.  As a warning, she was informed to not do anything suspicious or she would risk being arrested.  This frustrated Iris.  She knew that this would severely limit any chance to explore the area.  She couldn't take any chances...at least not until she knew the area better.

After resting in an inn, she took a transport to the capitol city of Gamov.  She went straight for the castle and requested an audience with the king.  Iris was turned away, told that the king had a long list of people to talk to before he would get to her.  She was told to come back later on, though she wasn't given an exact time.

With little else to do while she waited, she explored the city and the surrounding area, though she could barely do much without getting a look from a guard.  She was uneasy about this place.  Her nights at the inn left her thinking about what was going on here.  She did not like the how the situation felt to her.  A seedy aura was constantly radiating from the officials here.  Something was wrong and part of her wanted to find out what was happening.

It was something for her to do between routinely asking if she could see the king every day.  Her suspicions grew stronger with each passing day as she eagerly awaited to return to the sea and leave this place.

For now, all she could do was wait and see what happens in the imminent future.  A plan would slowly begin to form in her mind, but for now, there was no telling when she will be able to execute it.
The other day, the idea of remaking one of my Yoshi characters came to mind.  It sounded like a fun project, so I decided to give it a try.  Some of you may remember her.

Iris by MAFIA11

The original plan was just to create this alternate version to use for a random series of adventure short stories.  However, the idea of also putting her into the world of Underneath it Lies came to be, so here we are.

Enjoy.:)
