Ok, after talking with a couple of friends about this, I decided to post this up and see what people think.
The goal of the final in my Foundations I: Design and Color class (an art class ) was to take a photograph of someone, blow it up if needed and then draw the person out in nothing but textures. Yes, the original outline of Shigeru and the background were traced, but that is what the professor wanted. DON'T get any wrong ideas on that.
Since I am not very good whatsoever in the visual arts, I chose a texture that I can use rather well; line textures.
Once the original drawing was made, I mapped out the areas and the levels of textures that I would place on it lightly with a mechanical pencil. Once that was done, I proceeded to add the texture, starting with the hair, then the suit, followed by the face.
Once I was done, I added a background that I felt would fit him. With the Mario series being his most famous of games, this seemed to be most proper. (Yes, I know the two ? blocks on the side are not aligned properly XD)
I used micron pens for the textures (.2 and .8)
Once the textures were done, took an eraser and cleaned off the tracing lines, leaving the finished product.
I must say, considering how bad I usually am in the visual arts, I am quite happy with this image. The face certainly came out a lot better than I was expecting.
The pic took me about 6 hours to complete.
Oh, if anyone has questions concerning the hair, the reasons some parts are lighter was because of the lighting in the pic. XD
Also, minor cropping from the original size (9 x 12) since it could not all fit on my scanner.
I will stress this again, please don't go after me because of the tracing part of the process, that is just what the professor wanted us to do in it. XD
